Harris Calls Latest Win “Great Learning Opportunity”, “Open” to Middleweight Title Shot

Hayabusa’s Luke Harris continued his ascension up Canada’s middleweight rankings at King of the Cage Canada’s recent “Infamy” card in Edmonton, by tapping out veteran Brandon MacArthur with a first round, armbar. With the win, not only has Harris gone undefeated in nine straight bouts, all eight of the victories during that stretch have come in the first round.

“Well, I ended up throwing Brandon with Harai-goshi (judo technique) and eventually transitioned to mount,” said Harris while recalling the March 9th bout’s final moments. “Brandon regained halfguard and I looked to strike and set up a Kimura, which I was able to get. He straightened out his arm to defend the Kimura, which put me in a position to secure a straight arm lock, where he was forced to tap.”

Luke Harris Ready For “Dangerous Striker” Brandon MacArthur, Middleweight Eyeing UFC

After fighting twice in 2010 and just once in 2011, rising middleweight Luke Harris is focused on getting in the cage as much as possible in 2012. Case in point, after tapping out Elliot Duff with a first round, rear-naked-choke just a few weeks ago, Harris will be back hunting for his eighth pro win this Friday night.

“Basically I’m making a run at it,” said Harris (7-1), who will battle veteran Brandon MacArthur at King of the Cage Canada’s March 9th “Infamy” card in Edmonton. “I had some injuries in the past and had some trouble finding opponents, and now I have a new manager who is keeping me busy. I just want to get in as many fights as I can.”

KOTC Infamy: Mike Froese Gunning to “Walk Away With the Belt”

After submitting Chris Lauzon in just 50 seconds at King of the Cage Canada’s “Goldmine” event in October, Mike Froese has not only been tapped for a main event appearance, the rising veteran has been granted a shot at Canadian Middleweight Champion Elmer Waterhen. After three plus years of professional fighting and countless hours of martial arts training, it’s a dream come true for the Albertan.

“You know what, it was “wow,” said Froese, while discussing his reaction upon finding out he would fight Waterhen for the belt, March 9th at Edmonton’s Mirage Banquet Hall. “It’s goal number two off the bucket list. One of my goals was to win a fight after I turned 40, and now I’m given this awesome opportunity to contend for the belt and walk away with the strap if things go my way. So I was really excited to get that news.”
