Recently King of the Cage Canada announced that veteran Jordan McKay will take on Jayson Peck at the promotion’s upcoming, June 26th “Hypersonic” event in Calgary, Alberta. For long time Albertan, MMA fans, the card will give them the first opportunity to see McKay compete since December, 2009, and matchmaker Orest Zmyndak is clearly excited about the recent signing. “When Jordan McKay enters the KOTC steel for the first time, his sights are set on the Canadian title and Garett Davis,” said Zmyndak about McKay, who won five straight bouts following his pro debut in March, 2003. “Jordan sports a 5-1 record with his only loss being to UFC's Ritchie Hightower. Coming off nagging injuries, Jordan hasn't fought in 2 years and wants to rack up a few victories before taking on the champ in the fall.”
Despite McKay’s impressive record, Zmyndak believes Peck presents the welterweight a serious challenge in his comeback bout.
“Standing in front of him will be Jayson Peck 3-2 from Grande Prairie and the Ronin Warriors club,” Zmyndak noted. “Jayson as well has title aspirations even though he’s coming off a shocking loss last month in Dawson Creek, where he was dominating his fight with Marco Guerette and received a flash knockdown. He is looking to make McKay a stepping stone in his quest for KOTC gold. This fight has fight of the year written all over it and makes the welterweight division very interesting.”
Aside from the main event between McKay and Peck, “Hypersonic” will feature several other bouts with interesting storylines behind them.
“Of particular interest is the fight between Calgarian Mike Hodgson 2-2 and Saskatchewan's Nick Heynen sporting an unblemished 3-0 record,” Zmyndak said. “Both look to be willing to slug it out and the winner will surely leap to the upper echelon of lightweight fighters.”
“Also appearing on the card will be popular Calgarian Buddie Dixon as he takes on a tough newcomer in Travis Wicks in a heavyweight bout and undefeated Calgarian Mike Hofer will have his hands full with fellow Calgarian Marc Savoie.”
The June 26th event, which will be hosted by the city’s Deerfoot Inn and Casino, will also include several amateur tilts to go along with the professional competition.
“A number of amateur fights involving Calgary fighters will round out the card, as well as a few more pro bouts to be announced soon,” added Zmyndak.
