KOTC Canada Matchmaker Zmyndak Talks “Brawl in the Mall 5”

By KOTC Staff

Recently King of the Cage Canada unveiled the line-up for the promotion’s upcoming July 16th, “Brawl in the Mall 5” event, and fans heading out to the Edmonton Event Centre that night will be treated to a ten fight plus card.

One of the event’s feature attractions will see KOTC Canadian Welterweight Champion Garett Davis take on American Danny Davis in a non-title affair.

“Very excited in seeing Danny Davis fight,” said KOTC Canada matchmaker Orest Zmyndak while discussing the KOTC vet. “Known as "Dee 1" he is a well known rapper scrapper who has opened for Ice Cube and has an album out. He trains at Vadnais fighting in Las Vegas with Frank Mir and Robert Drysdale and has a 5-4-1 record with 6 of his fights going the distance.”

After Year Plus Absence from Fighting, Jarid Bussemakers Can’t Wait for July 16th

By KOTC Staff

It’s not for a lack of wishing, training or signing bout agreements, but approximately fifteen months have gone by now since Edmonton’s Jarid “Da Tappa” Bussemakers last fought in the cage. In fact, if you had told Bussemakers after he stopped MMA pioneer Shannon “The Cannon” last March that he would not fight again until July, 2011, the 25 year-old-fighter would have likely told you that you were out of your mind.

“Business as Usual” for Nick Heynen Despite Loss of Opponent

By KOTC Staff

Nick Heynen is scheduled to make his King of the Cage debut at the promotion’s upcoming “Hypersonic” event in Calgary, Alberta; the only problem is the undefeated lightweight is without an opponent. Although the Lloydminster fighter is understandably disappointed that his original foe Mike Hodgson had to withdraw, Heynen is continuing to train hard for the June 26th card.

“It’s business as usual,” Heynen said. “I’m not changing anything. I wasn’t really putting together too much of a game plan for this guy (Hodgson); as far as what he’s able to do I really felt as though I could beat him anywhere that I wanted to take the fight. So, like I said, I’ll continue to train, continue to prepare to fight and hopefully they find me something.”

Jordan McKay Launching Comeback June 26th

By KOTC Staff

It’s been over 18 months since Jordan McKay fought last in a cage and the 5-1 fighter is more than ready to make his return. After taking some time away from active competition to rest and regroup, McKay will look to reassert his presence in the Canadian welterweight division on June 26th, when he takes on Jayson Peck at King of the Cage Canada’s “Hypersonic” event.

“I took some time off after my last fight because I was moving from B.C. back to Calgary and my wife was pregnant,” said McKay. “Honestly man I was burnt out a little bit so I just wanted to take care of my family, spend some time with them, and in these last few weeks I felt like I wanted to come back and fight.”
